Is there a liquid silicon that I can carefully add to my orings in the housing that will not damage the orings . . ???? And . . where can I order if . . ?? Thanks one and all so much !!:D

NOTE: The orings I am refering to are the small ones on the push button controls, I have the grease for the large ones.

Just curious...why would the grease damage the small oring and not the larger ones, both orings are made from the same material?

That author just made the biggest "No No" in the oring business, he used a sharp metal instrument to remove an oring! Should have used a plastic or wooden tooth pick to remove the oring, to prevent fron scratching the metal oring sealing surface on the shaft.

Over all he is correct about the oring size and a good report.
 
In the past I have read that some ORING materials react to different types of silicon grease . . causing them to swell and eventually fail. I thought I remembered in my reading on here in the past someone using a certain type of liquid silicon that they would apply with the end of a tooth pic to the shaft and get it to run down to the orings. It has been a while since I remember seeing this . . so was hoping to see it once again.

I was taught to put the silicone on a folded piece of lens cleaning tissue. You could then rub it on the shafts. No chance of scratching anything.

The most common oring materials are Buna, Viton and Silicon. Silicon grease has no effect on these. Now using Acetone to clean the orings will make them “swell up” I doubt if anyone here would use Acetone as a cleaner.

Isopropyl Alcohol is the cleaner for orings. If you really need the grease in liquid form use a small drop of baby oil on the oring shaft. It's still much better to remove the oring then clean and dress it properly, and I do care what anyone else says, but use plenty of grease on "dynamic seals"

The button o-rings are buna o-rings. Use any good quality silicon grease to lubricate it. Some of the posts you are after:
