I do not have a dog in this fight (quote attributed to Michael Vick :rofl3: ) but I will say this, the more I read from the people at Deep 6, the more I love their model and customer service. You can dig through pages of posts here that really highlight the customer service and quality of their products but I think the one statement that really sticks out is:

I have not been diving long but as a machinist for 10 years and having worked for manufacturers I can tell you I have never seen any company tell you to to change brands if you even have a "niggle" of a doubt. To me this shows that D6 is a diver first company who actually cares about your direct safety. Kudos to @cerich and the entire @Deep Six team.

Full disclosure, I have purchased fins and a dry box from them but that is it and in no way am I now or ever been compensated.

Doby45 Do I have something in my teeth?

I would dive Deep 6 in a heartbeat and the only reason I don't is that the products I have already bought based off of @cerich model will NOT break. I simply can not afford to swap my stable of regs when the ones I have are literally bulletproof. I will say this, as I do change or add regs to my fleet they will with no doubt be Deep 6 regs. Period..

I've had experience with the local LDS calling things "off brand" before just because they don't sell them.

My first reg ever was a mares abyss MR52. Was actually very nice and never had issues with it. However when I showed up for an airfill one time with the reg still on the tank I was told my mares reg is "off brand" and very low quality. It was recommended to me that I upgrade to a scuba pro reg they sell...

Long story short the scuba industry in terms of local dive shops are all about gear sales. Don't take your gear to places that don't sell the brand you want them to help with. Also just know your **** and get as educated as possible because as you can see all over this board, LDS employees aren't as knowledgeable as you would expect them to be. When I got sucked in to scuba diving and was reading as much as I could, I figured out quickly that my knowledge of gear and diving in general greatly surpassed the average employee unfortunately. I've overheard and had them say some absurd things about gear to family members.

Another example - another LDS told my dad no way to convert a yoke first stage to din by disassembling...even though you can find the same reg in din online and the part to service it to din (I just took it apart and changed it over for him). They wanted him to buy a new reg from them instead.

Just really have to get as informed as possible.

And stay with deep 6. No reason to pay more for a scuba pro reg that you will literally never notice any difference in while diving. Not in quality, reliability, serviceability, or performance. Don't waste your money paying more

@cerich I am just now finishing up my OW certification and looking to buy my first regulator package. Really impressed with all the good things I am reading and hearing about Deep 6. The main concern is with myself having no experience and relying on the LDS for any work that would need to be done in setting up a new package. If I were to order the single tank package, would it arrive ready to go? Or would I need to take it by the shop to have them assemble everything? Thanks!

It will arrive set up and tested in a snazzy orange dry box, with a service kit for all the stages thrown in.

    Ready to dive.

so...your dad sent them back and I have been slammed but got to the box today and opened it.

    they no leak.

I took videos of me opening the box and testing the regs, both dry and in the water.

YukonJack, your dad is about to get screwed by his local LDS. The technician at the LDS is an idiot, and definitely trying to make a sale through their shop (most likely to the tune of a substantial markup), and I wouldn't be surprised if the "leak" is just a pretext to selling him stuff. It's an HP hose and a gauge. It's stupid simple to install correctly. Never give someone who has a vested interest in taking your money the opportunity to force the issue.

His best bet is to suck up the additional shipping cost to get his regs back from Chris, and not give any more money to whatever shyster LDS he went to in the first place. Not only will he get excellent product, you can already see that he's getting excellent service, and when his regs actually do need service, it's already covered. Compare to that LDS that will charge him substantially for parts and service after already selling him something under false pretenses.

So I know my Dad has seen this video and is going to talk with Chris. We returned very late last night from Belize, so we are all a little cooked. I'll let my Dad figure out what he is going to do, but I am totally planning to sell my ScubaPro regs and buy a set from Chris this fall. The savings on servicing alone is well worth it.
