Tabasco1955:
To the best of my knowledge, Blackwater has been closed down for a loooong time, I made a few dives there back around 1984 (aprox, it's been so long I forgot!). It was a pretty cool place to dive but my understanding is, it was closed due to insurance issues (I heard a diver died there). This is all second (third, fourth, whatever) hand information except for the dive so who knows!

I talked with a relative of the owners of Blackwater and she said they closed it because of insurance. Not because of scuba divers getting hurt, but rather because of swimmers jumping off of the cliffs and getting themselves hurt. Unfortunately it only takes a few to ruin it for the many.

Hey guys. How about posting some of that info at this link. http://www.scubaboard.com/t67618-.html
That way when someone else wants the info they know where it's at.

I know this is the "scuba" board and all but do any of you midwest divers do any freediving? I'm looking for a dive buddy to hit some of the central Missouri areas.
I appologize if this is inapproriate to ask.
Thanks in advance,
Stitch
