This just in from the wife of one of "my" divers, Ray Owens...
My husband, Ray, and I have been on a cruise to Belize since Sunday the 23rd. Yesterday he went on a scuba dive off the coast of Belize and at the end of the last dive, he was on his way back to the boat, as it had been told to me, and he experienced some sort of problem causing him to go unconscious. He was retrieved from the waters, CPR was given but he never recovered. Ray died. I am trying to get his body back to Alabama ASAP. Your prayers are appreciated.
Ray was about 65, in apparent excellent health.
He was a fairly new diver (I think about 30 dives so far) but meticulous with safe practices like monitoring his gas supply and rate of ascent & such.
I have no other info at this time.
Rick

Hello, and my sincerest condolences to you and your family. I met Ray on the Dive Boat "HOHO", my wife and I met him and I have pictures of us together. We were on our second dive from the other NCL BOAT Anchored off Belize and took the excursion to two sites, the 2nd site was something like "Amys Melons" on the Turneffe Reef Atoll at least 65 minutes from the dive shop, and I rushed to the surface to end my dive because of the commotion. If you would like to contact me about what the exact details were, I have them in a report format, and I need to speak to the family ASAP. I am a 35 yr. career Fire Officer/Medic. Email fyman AT me DOT COM. Or Call seven five seven 876 nine nine nine nine. We are so, so sorry for your loss. Anthony & Patricia Gloucester, VA

Thank you for posting, Rick. What a terrible situation for Ray's wife.
