Great experience, your buddy tonight had an idea before you went down that you might be sucking air, like a kite in the wind, and cold wasn't even a question... but he went because guys who've got to rescue diver, they get it that people need time to progress... now he might not want to pair up every dive, but you'll keep meeting people like this, just do everything you can to learn from them so you get your chance to share what you know.
 
I honestly love diving with folks like you, so don't think you caused your buddy any inconvenience. New divers are fascinated and thrilled with the things we've stopped looking at . . . which makes us look at them again with fresh eyes. There is great joy in buddying up with new folks.
