Has anyone "rebuilt" an HP seat removing the worn seat from the stem/crown and attaching/glueing a new one? If so, what's a good method to remove/attach?

I'm specifically interested in Apeks DST/DS4 regs. NESS sells an aftermarket seat for ~$25 but various seats (w/o stem) for ~$2. I've used HOG D1 HP seats on my Apeks regs. The former are quite a bit thicker/taller which indicates a measure of tolerance as long as the seat fits on the stem/crown.

Sorry but this just sounds like a bad idea. I would think there are kits available for around the same price as the seat from NESS. What about all the other components? You have a mix of 70 and 90 duro orings that I'd hesitate to use over.
That 1.99 seat is also for a piston reg that has a little cup the seat sets in. It is not glued in.

orings I buy separately and have a good supply of. Apeks 1st stage kits cost about $30 and most of it seems to be for the hp seat. I bought all of my DST/ DS4 regs used, some quite cheap ($70). Not keen on doling out $30 (which I did initially) if I can reuse the metal stem with the "little cup" and get hp seats for $2.

if spending an extra 20 bucks to rebuild the reg every few years is that big a deal, perhaps you should switch to piston regs that take the trident seats. diaphragm regs do cost a bit more in parts, but it works out to maybe 10 dollars a year difference at most. basically the cost of a drink in SF.

It's not a big deal but it's not minor either if you a bunch. I have SP piston regs but hardly use them anymore. My typical dive is 2 steels, 2 stages, and an O2 bottle. Two for trimix. Two backup 1st stages, two 2nd stages. 5 steel cylinders, 4 ALs, all in regular use. Valves in drysuits (just rebuilt a sitech inflator which was turning my drysuit into a not-so-drysuit), etc. VIP, hydro, it adds up.

My question is technical in nature. If anyone has tried it, how to attach/detach w/o damaging the stem seems key. If no one has tried it, I may give it a try but will probably try the "sanding approach" first which was discussed previously.
