So bored this weekend in Florida with storm Alberto I made a reel winder. Had to buy the bearings, shaft and gears, everything else came out of the junk box.

Thank you Professor Gadget. Love it....tinker on dude,... tinker on....

Took me a minute or so to work it out, I think. The flat bit of metal nearest the reel hooks under the winding knob and turns the reel that way, is that correct?

Thanks. Coming into winter here, may have to play in the shed.

Cheers

If you did not know ....... reel you should wind in water because the wire is more soft and stretchable . On the reel we wind it tight .

After drying a rope on surface , rope becomes very hard winded and we could place on reel much more rope (special with 50-100m reels ) or we use smaller reels with same amount of rope.

Also tight winded rope in water unwind itself far more nice and without knots.

The way you did is interesting and educational but unusable too loose rope

try yourself - old trick.
