This is beyond silly, but I've purchased two new Cressi masks to replace two old Cressi masks. I'm trying to remove one end of the new mask strap in order to install a neoprene cover. I can't get the strap off.

The strap locks in place with a hinged plastic lever, and lifting that lever allows the strap to tighten or loosen around the pin. However, about 1" from the end of the strap are two larger silicone ribs, one on either side of the strap. I cannot get those ribs past the pin.

Short of slicing off these ribs, how do you get the strap off?

I have always used the tip of a butter knife as a shoe horn with a liberal amount of water lubrication
Be over cautious with the application of silicone around mask lens
