Most of these issues have pros and cons. I ordered the Zeagle 16 inch hose which will give me a little extra length but still be shorter than the hoses on my Zeagle BCs which are 19 I believe. About the disconnect problem, yes I can orally inflate the BC but I want to be able to see the connection with my mask on.
Also, I did not like the Dive Rite inflator Tobin provides as the inflator hose runs on the inside (to the right) and crosses over the corrugated hose (his elbow attaches to the wing in the center). So changing over to the Zeagle BX solved two problems with one swap.
Here's my favorite knife, though I heard the titanium version holds a better edge.

It has to be squeezed from both sides to release.
