Opinions appreciated when it comes to the price list of my LDS for the rescue course. The rescue course is 299$. Then There is a lot of things to be added on the course as listed below. I'm sure this is all useful things to learn although it seems to me that they fluffed up the prices for the extras, like 149$ to learn CPR?? Do the extras seem excessive or is there real value here? For the record, I use to be a lifeguard and do know some basic rescue.... Thanks in advance!

Includes 7 courses plus an additional award!
PADI Rescue Diver - pool & open water. (299$)
Both EFR courses for adults and children. (149$)
All 4 courses part of the DAN DEMP training. (199$)
All required manuals and a pocket mask. (185.08$)
Prestigious DAN Diving Emergency Specialist (DES)
certificate included. (20US$)
Total Rescue Diver hat and convenient Total Rescue Diver
bag. (Exclusive) Special: 579$. Reg.: 854.08$.

I took the PADI rescue course, red cross first aid/CPR course and DAN O2 provider. It came out to about $475.

As far as I know, CPR is a requirement/prerequisite for all Rescue courses from the major agencies. If you already have some medical/first responder training, I'd skip that. A refresher is good but I'd bet you can generally get that kind of info directly from the rescue course by asking questions. By the way, several EFR courses I've been involved with did not give you the CPR cert unless it was an "addition" to the course. Make sure theirs does if you decide to add it.

$200 for required manuals on top of the $300 price seems steep to me. Our rescue courses around here are generally in the $300 range but include the manuals. Pocket masks can be had for $5.

DAN DEMP is probably overkill unless you want to be a "professional" first responder or someone who wants to manage responses in some form.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the "Diving Emergency Specialist" because the skills are what's important, not the card.

Ask some other shops what they charge for the courses. It doesn't matter if I can get it for $99 locally because you aren't in my area. If all the shops in your area charge the same price, then that is what you will have to pay.

Also, ask other divers what they thought of the instruction from XXX shop. Not all instructors are the same. Some are good enough to justify a higher class cost.

$579 for all those courses? I guess that sounds about right.

If you have a current CPR/1st aid card you can skip that. It doesn't matter if you used to be a trauma surgeon, you need to have current creds to take the Rescue course.

I have done all the DAN courses as well, I found them to be worthwhile and so far (and hopefully never) have needed them. Still there is good info there and it is not all about learning how to treat people, but also how things work regarding pressure and such.

The hazardous marine life was mostly common sense stuff, but the other 3 were worth the total price.

If you can bag the fluff (hat, bag and certificate) and save some bucks go for it...

When I took Rescue, I believe DAN 02, and CPR were pre-reqs at the time, and CPR needs a refresher every 2 years...

Total came to about $400 for the three... (give or take $25).

Rescue is an *excellent* course... most fun I've had in any course, not to mention the practical application and skills learned...

When I took my Rescue course, it included the Rescue Course, all manuals, and a pocket mask for $110. It cost $130 ($20 more) if you had to become CPR/AED and EFR (children and adults) certified. Nowhere near the prices listed above.

I'm taking the PADI Rescue class this summer in Belize.

In the meantime, I've been preparing for it by taking a CPR class and buying the Rescue Manual from my LDS.

The CPR course was in two parts: an online session on the American Heart Association's website that cost $30 or $35 followed by a class session by a DAN instructor that cost $99. This class is required for the PADI Rescue Diver certification, but I don't think it matters if you take it before or after the Rescue class.

The Rescue Manual cost about $60 (msrp), I think. I still need to find a pocket mask somewhere.

Just for kicks, I took DAN's 02 First Aid For Scuba Divers course earlier this week. I paid $25 (again, msrp) for the manual and $99 for the class.

I have no idea what the cost of the RD course in Belize will be, but I'm hoping it's not more than $200 especially since I already have the manual and hopefully will have picked up a pocket mask in the meantime.
