I'd agree the instructions are mostly worthless. In use it's fantastic once it's setup right. Customer service has been OK, not great. US distributor is again, OK but not great.

Having someone who knows the system help you set it up is absolutely key to happiness. if you aren't willing to pony up for the in person training at least consider getting the sidemounting.com online training. It is a life saver and will help you get things setup much, much better than you can on your own. (I've done both, in person training at Protec in Playa del Carmen and the sidemounting.com online training. I've gotten a lot of value from both and have tweaked things post protec based on some of the info on sidemounting.com to make things just about perfect in my mind.)

Now if I can get a warranty repair turned around I can get back to diving with it...

Thanks for those suggestions and ideas. We are land locked with 1 deep dark diving lake with a whole lot of rock and silt. Visibility was around 10 ft on the weekend and the first thermocline was at about 25' with a water temp of 7 degrees Celsius (45 Fahrenheit). It was blistering hot at the surface at 35 Celsius (95 Fahrenheit) and full sun (no clouds) and no breeze.

We have 3 LDS and currently no sidemount instructors. The one shop flew in an instructor from the coast to teach sidemount for a couple days to do the sidemount training course and the LDS didnt have all the gear we needed (it takes weeks for us to get stuff). We didnt get to do alot of things that the instructor wanted to do as we simply didnt have the time.

My goal is to cave and wreck dive so doing sidemount locally to practice so as not to waste valuable cave and wreck training makes the most sense to me.

Go to Protec Tulum or Protec Playa del Carmen. One of the owners of those shops is also the designer of the rig. They are a first class shop.

Why would review something you know nothing about and waste our time. If you want information about how to get trained in sidemount diving just ask on this list serve. You sound like an idiot reviewing something that you don’t even know how it works or how to use it. Get trained... get experience... learn to dive then move to wreck diving then cave diving. Protec is excellent or Edd Sorenson will get you on your way. Personally, I feel Protec does the best job.

.I was using 4x5 lb lead beanbags in the spine pouches and 9 lbs of lead beanbags in each droppable weight pouch (I believe I had a 6 and a 3 in each - it was a really tight fit).

Never fear, Captain Obvious is here.

That’s a lotta, lotta, lotta, lotta, lotta weight. Another 4th grade way to express it would be that’s a million trillion billion pounds of weight (arms outstretched to the side helps for dramatic effect).

Dude, I hope in the past year+ since you write this that you’ve figured how to get some lead out. You could probably lasso a USN nuclear class submarine and prevent it from surfacing if you wanted.

Also, I don’t understand ditchable weights on a SM (or BM for that matter). I think you got bit by Count Dorkula. You should eat more garlic.

Jus’ trying to help. I’m here for you, brother.
