Has any one heard of Scuba Training International or John Frederick? I got a guy who came into a shop up here near Seattle with a "cert card" from him. Looks kinda fishy.

i know john, he is an old time naui instructor (on again off again status) that operates out of hawaii kai on a large brown tri-maran,,, he was my first instructor and i worked for him back in the late 80's
I think there was some talk about Scuba Training International (STI) on the I2I forum a while back.
I think the general outcome was that the instructors under that heading were generally reliable, but that the agency was sort of ad hoc -- basically a card to issue when the instructors weren't current with their big-time agency, perhaps due to QA or other disagreements.
