Came across a Mk11 that didn’t have a serial number but has a demo etched in its place, is this a common?

Typically, they're show floor regulators with no internal parts. Does it work?

If so, a shop merely inserted the missing pieces and had themselves a reg for the pool, for a worker as a present, or to sell on the black market.
 
Yes it does, hooked it up to a tank everything is good.
