You can get a hooded tilos 7mm from house of scuba for $250.00, pretty short money for warmth! (They come up to 3xl) and you could probably eBay it after with just a few dives for $150....I'm telling you it's the surface interval if you are doing more than three dives on a So. Ca. Dive boat that gets you!

Thanks for the advice. I've decided to buy a 5mm full (only have a 3mm now) to wear under the 7mm hooded step-in vest I already have. With 5mm gloves and boots I think I'll be fine in temps >55deg. If I'm too cold on the first day of diving I can always rent a 7mm full suit for day 2. Good point about getting chilled during the S.I. I'll bring a long windbreaker (shell) to cut down evaporative cooling during the S.I.

I don't have one, but these "surf-fur" cloaks look really cozy; maybe some day.

Most SoCal wetsuit divers use some kind of similar dive parka as the surf fur. The surface intervals can be brutal when wet, air temps in low 60's and overcast skies. Add a cold wind blowing and it just sucks without a warm coat.
