I turned off my ad blocker to support scubaboard, but I don't like the nature of these ads. I edited the ad settings quite a few times and these still show up. I don't visit the kind of content that would make this 'normal' for my login. Why?

Thanks for doing that... but we have no control over the ads you see when it comes to Google. It's part and parcel of your viewing history combined with the algorithm they use to figure out what they think you want to see.

yeah, so stop googling sexy things and you will stop getting sexy adds lol.

I get adds a lot for duluth trading company, but that's because I shop there...I also get adds for shearwater and divegearxpress...but that's also the places I go...I use private browsing for all my sexy searches ;-)

I had a buddy send me a link to wicked weasel. I didn't even open it and I am besotted with their ads.

All I get are ads for Shearwater and Dive Gear Express.

Sex sells...

I do NOT, Never have googled porn, but I used to get XXX rated gross-out porn ads. These were not because of my “google history” but because advertising execs assume that all middle aged men will be tempted by shocker porn, and they did not realize I am a woman and would respond better to ice cream-snarfing babies or strawberry-eating tortoises.
While I am complaining, I suspect that the repetitive gross out ads about bodily functions that are not sexual, are also not by algorithm, but more as a punishment for those who don’t click in any ads.
My strategy is to click on jewelry and fancy dress ads, to steer ads to something less offensive, and it is working partially. At least the porn stopped and I now have thousands of Mother of the bride dresses to choose from if my kids ever get a move on in the marriage department.

Yeah I don't get it...It's mostly dive & travel ads which makes sense. It must only take being a male lol. I've been on scubaboard for about a decade now so maybe it's a sign I should 'go red'.

Wow, have you JUST noticed this?

If this sort of thing really bothers you, consider using a VPN or private browsing when online.

Alternatively, you could just scroll past that which you find objectionable? :happywave:

Thanks for the extra helpful post. I didn't say it 'really bothered me'. I don't visit porn etc. sites so I was curious.
