I agree 100% with you David. Some people's traditions is to kill animals just for soup or grease. They don't understand that nowadays things are changed. They don't care because they want their soup.
There is no difference if these animals are sharks, whales or dolphins. Some nations are ready to kill anything in the name of tradition.

I dread the day when we look at the Ocean as a dead space with little to no life in it, suffer from a lack of oxygen and watch the planet dying when the realisation comes that it was all for a bowl of soup :depressed:

There are a couple of nations in particular who need to take a serious look at how selfish they are.

Its not just the Japanese; the Chinese love shark fin soup too

If it were up to me I'd stop the slaughter and ban finning; however its in response to market demand - when those who eat/purchase the product stop doing so, the problem will be solved.

The fact remains that for many in Asia (though certainly not everyone), whale, dolphin, and shark fin are just "normal" foods, and no cultural stigma attaches to eating them.

Kinda like the drug problem in the USA; we love to talk about how bad those Mexican and Colombian drug lords are (and they are) - but stop the demand here and the problem will go a long way to being solved.

Japan kills thousands of whalles. Why not sharks?
Just because they do does not make it right

The politics behind the Japanese whaling fleet is amazing - they don't have a "need" for whale meat, and in fact much of it goes to public schools for lunch meals - from reports I've seen the students would be happier with something else on the menu.

Its all BS anyway because they claim their whale hunting is all in the name of "research" - fine, but if true, then why kill them. Japan has also tied aid to various 3rd world countries in part to supporting their whaling industry.

...
Before anyone goes on a tirade about the japanese and sharks, keep in mind that 99% of Japanese are not mean or arrogant about the plight of sharks, they are simply ignorant.

Send in PETA, that will either resolve the ignorance or make them sick to their stomachs for the soup.

mmm shark fin soup is tasty!!!

very dumb

:hm:

LB = Serious  I have never been witness to LB being serious so I believe something fishy (or whaly or sharky if you prefer) is going on here.
