Hello,

I've just read the post on the main page about the on-going shark-finning in the Galapagos islands.

Can someone who's been there let us know what the extent of the damage is? From the article, it looks like the problem is rather big, and that shark populations have declined precipitously in recent years.

Any comments from return visitors to the islands? And is this going on at Darwin and Wolf as well, or is it limited to islands near Baltra??

Any local dive ops trying to do anything about this?

Thanks,

J.

Hi

Yes it happens, but not just in the Galapagos all over central America, but the most outrageous thing is that Disney at their Hong Kong park have just put up a special menu for honeymooners ...guess what shark fin soup!!!!!!!!

Please everyone do not eat shark products, do not buy shark products.

We kill up to 100 Million Sharks a year. This should concern EVERY diver.

Hi J,

Check out WildAid.org and then click on the section for the shark and shrimp report, then read the report about shark finning throughout the Eastern Pacific. It's truely depressing. I won;t go on about it but getting informed and spreading the word is the best thing we can do.

Eatting shark fin soup in Asia (all the countires) is considered essential for celebrations like big business deals, weddings and New Years. With the increase in wealth there, is the future bright for our toothy firends?

Get informed to the facts and you'll be sick for days.
