I finally had some time off to tune in tonight to Shark Week...I worked a season in 2007 at Guadalupe w/ GWS. Tonight I tuned in just in time to watch my colleagues, Doc Anes and Jessie Harper, from San Diego Shark Diving on TV...how cool is that! The GWS were awe inspiring. Doc and Jesse were very kewl to work with. Fun Times, Awesome Adventures, Great Memories!.

I had planned to watch Shark Week for the first time ever last night... but got engrossed in finishing a fun novel. I've never been a fan of the "show," but have heard it is evolving into something less terrifying and more educational so I'll give it a shot. Besides, if Elena liked it, maybe I would too. But then I just started a new novel so we'll see...

Jury's out for me...

Every time I tune in, there seem to be pictures of gaping wounds, and copious amounts of blood accompanied by thrashing and splashing. I'm finding it difficult to understand how all that, interspersed with a few (very brief) gratuitous blurbs of forgiveness from the victims, does anything at all to improve the perception of sharks to the generally uninformed public...

95% of the shows seem to cover the most feared shark - the GWS, with little else on the less spectacular, less dangerous. I run into reef, nurse, and the occasional bull *much* more often... would love to learn more about those... no interest by Discover?

In fact, I'm at a loss to understand how all this improves anything but ratings for the Discover Channel...

Perhaps I'm missing something... it's possible...

Honestly, If my friends hadn't been on last night's show, I might have changed the channel. Maybe tonight I'll watch my own video's and pics from 2007 in honor of shark week.

It was doing well for a while, but this year seems to be back to the attack porn for the most part. Pretty disappointing.
