Wow, thanks for all the great shark stories.

In MN, our greatest worry is a Blue Gill deciding that a mole or dark spot looks tasty and decides to nibble on a person. Then there are the Northerns & Muskies. As a waterskier, swimmer, etc... I've never liked it when the Blue Gills would start to nibble on your toes.

I have an ACTIVE mind and was picturing sharks taking even bigger "nibbles." Well, after reading this, I'll fear the sharks less, give them there due respect just as I would a Black Bear (which I have encountered close up, within 2 feet).

I still don't feel I'll actively look for a shark once I'm certified and dive in the Caribbean.

I'm getting back into scuba after what seems like a lifetime away, but, I trained in the Philippines and the week I was there, I saw sharks probably 5 out of 10 times, but that was back in 1981. Times have changed with the eco system I'm sure, but they are like any other animal, you don't bother them, they won't bother you. I think even the Great White only attacks if they mistake you for food. Don't surf.
