Mystery Ray

I looked in several books, but was unable to make a positive ID. I shot this on a night dive at about 30 feet, off of Turneffe Atoll. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ken

Yes, it's the yellow stingray, Urolophus jamaicensis.

Current genus for the jamaican stingray is Urobatis. It may go back to Urolophus, but not at present. Append your Humann guides!

I know Urobatwatamae.

Hey Sapphire... good to see you back "on Board."

Ken- concur with the others in the ID. I encountered several of these and videotaped them. One was "dislodged" by a lobster we released after filming it. The lobster scotted right off into the ray which was buried on the bottom.
