I am in the lucky situation that I live close to Dauin, the muck diving capital of the Philippines. I still went on a diving trip! I spent a few days in Siquijor, which is a lovely place on land, extremely chill and friendly, and has under-appreciated diving. Especially the night diving is excellent.
The biggest highlight of the trip was a wonderpus, right in front of the dive shop. I stayed with the animal for 20 minutes.
Night dives in general were excellent, with lots of flatworms for some odd reason. Lots of different crustacean species too, with multiple sightings of teh very beautiful marble shrimp (Saron sp.).
Of course we dived Paliton wall, the island's most famous dive site:
An unexpected highlight was an MPA near the southernmost tip of the island, in Cabancalan. Well protected, with large schools of (very edible and hence mostly missing in other parts of the Philippines) surgeonfishes:
