Don't know if the double post was intentional or not, but this thread could use a good strong double margarita about now!! I like it!!!

Mike

I could have a double right now as well.....double post was just cuz sometimes I am tekno challanged.

I discovered that my new Chevy has remote start. The button was obvious but I had to read the book to see how it worked. This car is too fancy, 12 years newer than my old pickup. Got more study time to do.

I can roll down my SUV front windows with the remote. For a diving context, that would be great on an island like Bonaire where you have to leave your windows rolled down. Forgot, and you've already swum to the dive site? No problem. At home, it's a bit harder to justify.

Remote start would be even better if you could then remotely drive the car over to pick you up, say in a large parking lot.

So back on topic, I was reviewing a dive ops paper work that they require divers to fill out, and it has a full paragraph/section on tipping the boat crews. Never seen that before, but a good idea. I will see if I can copy/paste it:

Please remember: TIPS for the Divemaster, crew & captain are not included in the dive price. It is appropriate to tip, & many people ask what is correct. Remember, waiters recieve 15% & are not taking care of you and your life. Please tip accordingly. Tips are evenly divided between all crew members & is a reflection of good service. If for any reason you do not recieve the service you expect, please let us know here in the office. Without your help & input, we will not be able to continue our good service to you.

Nice to see that on the front page of theier application/waiver paperwork.....

I learned some more buttons on the car today. I don't want to just press them and see what happens. It might have an ejector seat.

You are missing me. The majority chose to infringe about the rights of women and minorities, because they thought it was the 'right thing to do.'
The 19th amendment clarified the rights of women with voting.
We also clarified though law the rights of people regardless of race, religion, national origin and gender.
All good things.

If I owned a restaurant, I could refuse you service for your manner of dress. For instance, I might run a black tie establishment and not let anyone without a jacket and tie. My investment, my property, my choice. Not protected right. I can refuse you for anything, except protected rights. It is my right as a property owner.

I would have less of an argument if you said you wanted to ban smoking altogether, like drugs or nuclear weapons, but to say hey it legal but you can't have it in your eatery you own, a private establishment, is the troublesome part.
Again, it's not that I don't understand you, it's that I disagree. Banning smoking altogether would deprive smokers of the inalienable right to poison themselves. I wouldn't dream of that. I just don't want them to poison me. You can couch this in terms of a majority trampling the rights of a minority if you wish, but I'm not buying it.

There are plenty of laws restricting what a property owner can do with his property. The owner of the lot next to me cannot, for example, build a paper mill on his land. A land owner cannot put a livestock pen on the bank of a river where the runoff from his animals' fecal matter will pollute someone's drinking water downstream. You can't open a bar or porno shop next door to an elementary school. All of which I agree with, BTW.

And things that are legal in some places are not in others. You can't drive your car on the sidewalk and you can't walk down the street naked.

I also submit that the restaurant smoking ban was good for restaurant owners. Once the statewide ban was in place (again, restauranteurs throughout the state lobbied FOR the ban) their businesses stabilized with little or no decline in traffic, and their establishments are cleaner and safer for their employees and customers.

You can stand up all you want in favor of allowing someone to fire up a stinking stogie right next to me in a restaurant and thoroughly ruining my meal, but I'm not with you. Neither is the Texas Legislature, and it's one of the few points upon which they and I agree. :D

So anywhere you can go should outlaw smoking? Like a garage, repair shop, cigar store. Anywhere you can go, we make rule to suit your experience there?

Which affects the people next door, unlike smoking in a restaurant.

You know I am not sure of the zoning on this one. I *think* here we could have a bar and school in the business district. I'm not touching porno.... sorry. (can you smoke there?) So if you go to a friend's house and he lights a stogie, should we be able to arrest him too?

Sidewalk and street are owned by the public. Build a sidewalk from your house to your garage and drive on it all you want. Same for naked, as long as you aren't projecting that image to someone else.

Well I don't care about the smoker, I care about the owner of the establishment and his right to let the customer light that stogie. AND I support his right not to let him. And as for ruining meals, that being the case I want a law that say I can arrest the cook if my steak is NOT medium and ruins my meal! :D And as for the TX Legislature: is it still on the books that a good murder defense is "the som-b$%^& needed killin'"? :) And again you arent going to touch the argument about drinking vs. smoking?
Gordo, I just can't help it.... Stop! :) Can't we just schedule this over a beer?

And NO one has tried the baja bob's margarita mix?

And I always tip on diving at least 15%!

My porch finches are hitting the black thistle seed feeder hard again. High price bird feed but it's fun to see them playing and feeding when I look out, and they probly need the help during this drought. The porch swallows are building a second nest so they are optimistic altho I doubt there are enough flying insects to lay eggs and raise a brood. No hummingbirds still, but busy enough on the porch that I guess I should hose it down. Messy little birds.
