It is typical Gulf of Mexico diving. I was last down there in August. We had 4-5 foot swells, 70-80 foot vis, no thermocline down to 70 feet. I plan on going again this summer.
They have wrecks as artificial reefs. Lots of fish if you like photo or spearfishing.
Check American Diving's website at http://www.divesouthpadre.com/.
My understanding is the rig dives to the Mansfield rigs is awesome. However, it is a 14 hour day, but you get 3 dives and lunch and breakfast on the boat. Hope this helps.

Thank you Ron! From the photos it looks like most people had a technical setup. Is this warm water diving like Cozumel or Cayman?

Thank you for sharing the website and the info.

Triggertravel,
When I was there last August, a wetsuit was not needed. They teach recreational and technical diving at American Diving. They also run recreational trips and Technical diving trips. Some trips are to a series of artificial reefs, most of which are old ships. Great for photography or spearfishing. My understanding that the top trip is to the Mansfield rigs around 50-60 miles out. The diving is supposed to be awesome from those who have been. The only drawback is it is a 14 hour day on the boat. You do get 3 dives with breakfast and lunch. The closer trips are half-day trips. Best time for diving would probably be June through August. Hope this helps.
