Hi there,

My wife and I are arriving in Sri Lanka on mid-January.

She would like to do an open water diving course and I'm interested in doing some fun dives (been diving 100+ dives around the world)

We would like to do it in a chilled environment, not too busy, where we can sip some shakes on the beach with a book.

What would be you guys' recommendations for this time of season?

KALPITIYA?
HIKKADUWA?
Unawatuna?

Thanks!

Have not dived in Hikkaduwa or Kalpitiya, but I spent some time in Galle/Unawatuna and thoroughly enjoyed diving there; certainly the relaxed atmosphere you're looking for (especially if you're not there around the Christmas/New Year's Day weeks which are peak periods). Other places I dived were Colombo & Negombo and diving was equally good.

If not already aware of it, this website (Dive Sri Lanka! - Find out everything about SCUBA diving ship wrecks and coral reefs in paradise!) has lots of useful info.
