SSI is pleased to announce the addition of West Marine as an Authorized SSI Dealer. West Marine is the largest marine and watersports retailer in the USA. Their success is largely due to a commitment to selling high quality products and providing excellent customer service. Add the fact that West Marines founder and family are SSI certified divers; it means this is a great fit with the SSI philosophy.
Currently, West Marine has two diving locations, West Palm Beach, FL. and Jacksonville, FL. Each location has 1000 square feet dedicated to scuba diving. In addition, a third store is being considered in Florida for early 2015. All stores contain full service Dive Centers offering Scuba Equipment, the complete SSI Training and Education System, Air fills and trip opportunities. Dive staff is required to be a Dive Professional and all are trained to sell dive equipment, fill tanks and promote scuba training. To stay true to SSIs philosophy, dealer affiliated SSI instructors will conduct all training.
This relationship is significant for all SSI dealers. For the first time in the history of the scuba business, SSI and diving will have direct, NATIONWIDE exposure to marine and water sports enthusiasts. Until now, we have never had this opportunity.
What does this mean for you the SSI dealer? West Marine has started a NATIONWIDE marketing campaign, promoting SSI Scuba Certification and Training to over one million of their customers. This promotion will direct people to the SSI Website to participate in the free Online Program portion of certification. After completion, participants will need to affiliate with a local SSI dealer to complete the training process. This means that even though West Marine has only two stores in Florida, SSI dealers throughout the country will benefit. This may be the largest direct marketing acquisition campaign targeted to reach specifically the non-diving, boating, and watersports related consumer in the US.
You all have asked stakeholders in our industry to help create more divers. We feel this is one of the most exciting efforts to do just that. West Marines marketing campaign will promote SSI Open Water Certification programs. Except for West Marines two stores, the only way the participant can continue their SSI course is through a local SSI Dive Center.
What can you do? Welcome people that have taken the Free Online Program into your programs if they call. Be aggressive in your local acquisition efforts at bringing new divers into our sport and support our efforts to partner with a quality retailer like West Marine.
Lets all join West Marine in an effort to acquire more divers. If we get behind their initiative, we will create a larger groundswell of awareness and excitement.
