    Hello!

I'm trying to get a class together at Scubatude (Northern Los Angeles) and need 3 more people.

Scheduling is up to students. I prefer weekends but if we everyone agrees on a weekday, I could take the day off.

I believe the course runs $275 and tools are provided during the training. It's one day for 8 hours.

Please let me know if you're interested! I'd like to do this ASAP!

Too bad you're not on the East Coast. I only need one student to teach the class if they are willing to come to me. I do need three to travel to do it within a 200 mi radius. Most of the time I teach the class one on one. No extra cost over a group class since you're coming to my home for it.

    Interesting !

    A little history FYI

When JYC first introduced the bubble machine to the US diving world in the late 1940s- His advertisements indicated that the regulators could be dove for 1000s of hours with out maintenance .

The SoCal divers immediately proved that statement wrong

Then US divers moved to Santa Ana Bill left his position and most repair was performed in house by various US Diver personnel.

In 1960s US Divers offered a free five day - 40 hour repair course to key personnel in the diving community at their Santa Ana facility. I took it numerous times

My son Sam IV who had began diving at age 3 or 4 in a bath tub and 5 in the Pacific turned 12 had finished summer school and was bored - so I enrolled him in the 40 hour US Diver repair course- the youngest ever enrolled .

He was up early every morning rode his bike to US Divers and at about 5 rode home all excited about some new aspect of repair he had learned, always with a US Divers T shirt, Patch, finally fins mask, snorkel and a wet suit all complements of John Cronin, the then GM of US Divers and one of the founders of an organization called PADI.

Several weeks after he had completed the course he received a telephone call from John's secretary
There was some one who wanted to meet him and would he come over at a specific time ? He did - the person wanting to meet and greet him was JYC who presented him with an inscribed copy of his latest book

Now it is $275.00 for a one day 8 hour course! and no freebees- T shirt, patch, finally fins mask, snorkel a wet suit and a book from JYC... the march of time...

Hi Sam. Thanks for the great story and historical perspective.

My point was that Jim runs his class with only one participant as a minimum, whereas the guy in LA apparently requires at least four.

Jes a little contrast of "Then and Now..".
    (and what a contrast !)

You are in Santa Barbara -- trot over to the marines science program -- I do no know but suspect they have a semester long program on Equipment repair

It has been many years since I was in any way associated with the program-- but suggest that you investigate it
