Just got the camera and canon's underwater housing... Going on a trip to Cozumel next week. Have never taken undwerwater pics... Are there any basic tips for getting good shots? I know that sounds vague, but I have zero experience with underwater photography!!

The housing has a diffusion plate to cover the flash... When should I use this??

Thanks, Mike

The best general advice I can give you is....
  • Get close.
  • Then get even closer.
  • For your internal flash to be effective, you should be able to reach out and touch your subject. It's only good for 3 ft.
  • The diffuser will make your strobe softer but wider coverage.
  • Shoot UP at your subject whenever possible. Shooting down on it make a very flat, 1 deminsional picture.
  • Anything past 3ft is going to look blue.
  • Don't forget about silhouette shots. Shooting up toward the surface with a diver between you and the sun always makes a good picture!
  • Always try to get the eye(s) in focus.

Have a blast!
