Not your average liveaboard…

Friday August 26th
After a nice trip to the Red Sea on M/Y Dive One with Emperor Divers in March 2005 we wanted to experience another kind of liveaboard: The MS Avanti, a former Rhine barge converted to a liveaboard.

After boarding the Avanti at 20:00 we went to ’t Koepeltje for the first two dives of the weekend.

Saturday August 27th
Dive #2 was a morning dive at ‘t Koepeltje.

Dive #3 Langedijk/De muur
This dive was done using a diving bell. The diving bell was lowered into the water. Four divers would get in, the bell would then be lowered to 10 meter where the waterlevel would be lowered by pumping more air into the bell. Next: down to 21m below the surface. One thing to take care of though was to be sure that your buoyancy was ok when you left the bell. Otherwise you would slam into the silt at depth or be launched like a missile at the surface... :11:

Dive #4 Gemaal van Dreischor.

One difference with our Egyptian liveaboard was that we were expected to do the dishes aboard. :11: But, with 12 divers aboard we didn't have to do it often. :D
Another difference was that this boat didn't have any DMs or instructors aboard. Only if you had arranged for a course beforehand there would be one. A briefing on the dive site was left to the group of divers.

Sunday August 28th
Dive #5 Another dive at the Gemaal van Dreischor.

Dive #6 Langedijk/De muur.
