MarkUK:
about £30 for the overnight accommodation at the airport per night, and the flights into and out of the UK cost in the region of US$300-500.

Indeed we had a great trip Mark, but it was $180 for an overnight at the Hol Inn at Gatwick and $1000 for the flight over to Gatwick from O'Hare Chicago via Newark.

The tour operators were not at all interested in assisting with those arrangements.

Jeesh... Didn't realise you'd paid that much for the Holiday Inn! Christ, I booked my US friend into a Premier Travel Lodge two weeks ago at Heathrow for £32, including breakfast. Think that's about US$65-70!

And his flight from Miami to Heathrow cost him US$575...

You must have looked rich, mate - that's why you got stitched up!

You're right about the tour ops not interested in helping with those arrangement, but most of the ones specialising in the Red Sea don't do transatlantic, hence the flight would be out of their hands, and it is quicker and cheaper to book your own accom.

Still works out far cheaper than going direct from the US through Cairo, and it is far less hassle.

Now I know where I stand. :crafty:

Seriously, it was worth whatever it cost.

The experience of diving the Thistlegorm (what was it... 4 times?) was just the best!

A fully loaded WW2 Munitions and Supply ship, sunk gently in 80-100 feet of water, loads of 16" shells, locomotives, cases of Enfield Rifles and Grenades, ammunition and more! Crates of BSA Motorcycles and trucks with their windshields still intact!

Here are some movies... not mine, but: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=thistlegorm

That and a lot more wrecks. Mark- you can keep your silly Sharks.

I highly recommend the trip, just plan a few extra days to see them big old stone things, pyramids they call them.

Mania,

I would love to visit Poland. Is there a tour operator you recommend? Do they have flights to Marsa Alam?

ever thought going via germany? seems like lob-tips starting in germany are cheeper than from uk. big advantage is the 50kg checked luggage allowence.
anybody interested in a tip? would arrange the whole thing inkl. flight, lob and diving.
