The Catalina Island Company, in it's infinite wisdom, just informed me their high season will now begin in APRIL, thus necessitating bringing in the extra staff who will inhabit the cabins some area groups stay in during the off-season. The Island Company actually broke a verbal contract with me for those same cabins (made last Fall).
The Island Company has done nothing by cry "poor" for the last decade or more... using that as justification for shoddy service my groups have encountered sporadically... and yet they must be doing more than "ok" if they need to push back their high season to the beginning of April, right?
