Hi,

Anybody heard anything about these people? Anybody qualified with this organisation or a member of it? Anyone met any UTD divers or seen them in action so to say?

The website is fairly well put together and their courses (on paper) seem pretty comprehensive and their minimum fitness requirements are certainly higher than anyone else I've seen.

Cheers,

Rupert

a link would help?

They adhere to a DIR philosophy (like GUE), but seem to have a friendlier menu of courses for those of us not quite ready to take the plunge into Fundamentals. Their instructors seem to all have extensive experience. I have read a few course reports about Essentials (their equivalent of Fundies), and they were universally positive--it seems like most of the knowledge/skills of Fundies without the stress of worrying about passing and the frustration of having things removed from you without warning.

PM TS&M here on the board. She has taken some UTD training as well as GUE and can give you a good assement of the similarities and differences.

UTD is comparatively new and has, like much of DIR, roots in philosophical differences and to some degree conflicting egos cuz no one does drama like technical divers and the north Florida cave community is drama central.

No instructors east of the Mississippi?
Italy, Spain, Denmark, and Poland are all east of the Mississippi. Singapore is far enough east to basically be west of the Missisippi.

California is also east of the Mississippi if you keep heading in that direction. :)
