Unusual spotted eagle ray behaviour

A friend of mine had this encounter this week with an eagle ray in Guam while snorkeling. He was pretty stoked.

Those "drive-bys" are nice, but not uncommon in Cozumel. Still better than another turtle!

I dunno, Marg. I've had a close encounter or two with turtles, but the only Kemp's Ridley that I've seen and identified kept bumping into me as we cruised slowly up the reef in West Palm a few years ago.
I thought the relaxed, interactive behavior was fun and cool, but when I realized that he was a Kemp's who apparently wanted to be certain that I noticed, I was thoroughly thrilled! We spent about 15 minutes hanging out before we went our separate ways.

I've had parallel-traveling encounters with eagle rays, but not a static one. Very cool. Nice New Years gift from the sea!

What a great life experience you had. ... I also once was eating lunch while working on a ranch in Wyoming over looking a large valley when a golden eagle landed about 30' from me. I continued to eat my lunch and he, I suspect, was looking for his.

For me it is always so special when wildlife let us into their worlds.

Yep, hawks like to hang out at lunchtime, maybe share a sandwich.
