I'll be going to the St John in early March. Is it really a good idea to reserve a spot on a dive boat or will coming as a walk on be successful? Also, any recommendations for dive shops?

Thaks, Pratt

It's always a good idea to reserve a spot. If there's a boat going and it's not full, walking on isn't an issue, usually, but I have no idea what capacity will be like when you're here.

As for dive ops, depending on where you're staying, Chris Sawyer runs the shop out of the Westin and they do a good job or Low Key Watersports in Cruz Bay.

Enjoy your trip down!

Second the recommendation for Chris Sawyer. They now have boats going out of Caneel Bay roght on St John as well as Red Hook. Their shop/dock at Red Hook is just a short walk from the ferry dock at Red Hook to coming over from St John if you need to isn't a big deal. I've always been OK booking once I was on island but booking ahead is not a bad idea especially for special trips like their Friday runs to the Rhone.

Enjoy!

Used Low Key a few years ago and had a great time. We booked in advance and I think the boat was full most of the time.
