All,

I am a member of the Magothy River Association (MRA) (www.magothyriver.org), which is a member organization of the American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) (www.aaus.org). The MRA dive team volunteers are responsible for the oyster reef conservation program on the Magothy River (Severna Park, MD), which is a part of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. We conduct scientific diving, in accordance with the MRA Team Diver, Standards for Scientific Diving, which was approved by the AAUS.

The MRA has a good group of volunteers but we are always looking for more. Dives are conducted twice a week (one weekday usually Wednesday) and Sundays. A weekly email is sent asking for volunteers to work a particular project. Volunteers are taken on a first come first served basis, usually no more than 4 per dive. The dives start between 8-9 am and are over by 12-1pm. The dives on the river are only 8-14 ft with low to no visibility and only one tank needed. You will certainly get the satisfaction of doing something good for the health of the river and bay.

Being a member of the AAUS scientific diving community, we have to follow regulations and guidelines, such as: medical examinations per AAUS standards, equipment service records, certifications, etc.

If anyone wishes to volunteer, please forward me your information including certifications and experience level, comfort level in low or no vis environments, and anything else you feel necessary. If you want to be an MRA volunteer there is a $25 annual membership fee.

If you have any questions feel free and use this message board so that all can see.
