I am new to Scuba Board but I want to let people know that a group of us just came back from Vortex Springs in Ponce de Leon, Fl and we made some changes to the underwater enviroment. The new owner is in the process of making some great changes to the place and in doing so we moved three of the four cave simulators from the deep part of the springs up into the mouth of the creek area. The simulators are now in shallow water but still make for a great swim through overhead enviroment. If you are down that way please stop by and pay a visit and check out the new changes. There are still more changes coming in the next few weeks with new suspended platforms and a helicopter canopy that will be set on the bottom.

Hey that's great news, Vortex is such a great place to dive and conduct training classes. Thanks for sharing!

ianr33 I am part of the dive team with mpd163 that moved the cave sims and was told by the owner, Lowell Kelly, and the caretaker, Edwardo, that the lights leading into the cave are in need of maintenance and will be receiving needed care in the near future. Also, the hydrilla in the shallows is to be removed in the next week or so. The new placement of the sims will provide an excellent introduction to overhead diving for those new to such an environment. Although the depth is relatively shallow, the overhead obstruction exists and still provides escape opportunities in the event of an emergency. The bottom near the actual spring is wide open almost similar to nearby morrison spring. The owner and employees are excited about beginning the upgrades are ready to make some major changes to improve training possibilities.

We'll be back down to check out all this new work soon - thanks to both of you and the new ownership!

Sounds great Indian Valley! Spread the word about the future of this facility. The owner really wants to get the word out about the new possibilities of his spring. We can't wait to complete all the planned improvements for future visitors.

Oh we shall, not sure if you have been to our website but we love to travel, have been to Vortex / Pensacola / Oriskany / Panama City a bunch of times just in the past couple of years, so we'll be bringing a group down to check out the renovations in the near future!
