I currently have 2x Sola 2000's. I am thinking of adding one of these to my GoPro Rig. For Deep wide angle shots of the reef. yhst-135059159448569_2246_174074.gif Wasp - brightest underwater video light What do you guys think ? Lumens for $$$ looks good to me ?

I have been considering purchasing one of those myself. From what I understand they are very nice, just pricey. It is probably serious overkill in OW, but with cave diving I need a metric $h1+ ton of light.

Seems like a little overkill to me. I bought my go pro trying to save money on a video camera. Why would I spend so much on a light?

Yes , you're right it is probably overkill for the GoPro but, I figure when I am ready to upgrade my camera i don't need to upgrade the lights at the same time.

at 5lbs. it's more like adding the GoPro to the light...

There's a 4K Sola now - http://www.lightandmotion.com/underwater/sola4000v.html

and this one: http://www.cathxdivelights.com/products/eu_product/euphos_wide_beam

Plus the Aditech - 17280lm with 2 light heads for slightly more $$. http://www.aditech-usa.com/en/underwater-lighting/1892-mangrove-videosystem-vs-12l12.html

My buddy has their 4320lm model, it's a good light. Slightly heavy though. But $750 also.

I notice that fish are negatively affected by it though - esp. at night, they tend to run and hide.
It was good for the Manta Dive off Kona though, he was the center of their attention.

If open water and reef shots is the main type of diving you do, I would consider upgrading the GoPro before spending $2k+ on a light. Especially since you already have a pair of Sola 2000's.

But the lumens, man, the lumens!!!

I wanna fire up my lights, see the water bubble and lobsters turn red!

What would you recommend for me for a step up in performance offered from the GoPro Hero 3 ?

Sony RX100 and the Panasonic LX7 with Ikelite housings are around $1000.

Interceptor has both cameras and posted some UW footage from the RX100. Hopefully he posts some from the LX7 soon.
