I was on Komodo Dancer. We docked alongside Damai on the first day. Damai looked a great boat in good condition. hope you have a great trip. Do post a report hen you get back.

Woodiver - we will be there in 2 weeks - how were the currents? Any other tidbits to share? This will be my 1st time in Komodo and 1st liveaboard. Thanks!

Most dives are based on the tides and tried to be around slack tide. The dive guides always did a site check prior to loading the skiffs and sometimes, the sites were changed or delayed due to currents. We got a break in the winds and were able to get down to the southern area which doesn’t happen often this time of year. We only saw two other boats in our two days in the south, in the north there were always other boats on the area. The southern area, water temp’s were as low as 68’ and vis was low due to the upwelling from the Indian Ocean.

We had manta’s on five or six different sites in both northern and southern areas, eagle rays and dolphins underwater at Crystal Rock and endless schools of fish on most sites along with whitetips on many sites. We did a few muck sites in the north but most of the guests were European on this trip and only were interested in pelagic activity not muck.
Watch the weight of your checked baggage, the domestic allowance is only 15kg per person and excess baggage charges varied between R14,000 to R24,000 per kg with no guarantee that the bags will actually make it on the flight to or from Bali. On our charter, on the DPS to LBJ leg, Lion Air left six bags in Bali for people on the boat due weight and the airline only services LBJ on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. The Bali office of our boat had to arrange for the bags to be moved on a different airline and then transferred by a local boat the next day.
You will have a great time!
