Coast Guard rescues 2 scuba divers in Gulf

Coast Guard rescues 2 scuba divers in Gulf
Story Created: Feb 14, 2011 at 9:15 AM America/New_York

CLEARWATER- The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two scuba divers after their boat started taking on water in the Gulf of Mexico.

Officials say about 3:50 p.m. Sunday two commercial fishing charter boats reported they were helping two men bailing water on a 16-foot boat. They asked for assistance from the Coast Guard.

The cutter Alligator arrived at the scene and launched a small boat and crew to rescue the men. The Coast Guard brought Justin Bailey and Charlie Schumaker to shore. The boat was towed to Clearwater Beach, where officials discovered a cracked hull.

I love the stock photo on the second link. If those where the divers with all that equipment no wonder they cracked the hull on what sounds like a bay boat!!!

This is nothing new. I have seen guys in a 16 ft. jon-boat on the three mile barge wreck off of perdido pass. Yep, about 8-10 inches of freeboard! Gotta love them.
