From the git go of getting certified, I have been given a zillion mnemonics to memorize. From BWRAF to ALERT (my favorite) to VENTID, I have memorized so many that it's hard to keep up. Which ones do you remember and why, and do you have a favorite? Oh yeah... do you have a favorite?

..my favorites are (in order):

TARFU
CF
NDE
SWBS

Not a mnemonic, but I also find 80/80 hysterical..

ConVENTID (VENTID) is the absolute worst I've ever encountered.

"Only Nude Redheads Feel Soft Plus Sexy" helps keep the pecking order straight for right of way on the water.

Overtaken - any vessel being overtaken has the right of way over any other vessel.

Not under command

Right - a vessel to the right has the right of way

Fishing - a vessel engaged in fishing (does not apply to sports fishing)

Sailing - a vessel under sail that is not also running it's engine.

Powerboat

Seaplane

ROY G. BIV - the order of the colors of the rainbow and the order in which colors are absorbed.

When in Thailand, I relearned an old Padi favourite:

Bangkok
Women
Rarely
Are
Female

:D

O-ring once bubbled...
..my favorites are (in order):

TARFU
CF
NDE
SWBS

Not a mnemonic, but I also find 80/80 hysterical..

TARFU - Things are really ****** up.
CF - Clusterf***
NDE - Near Death Experience
SWBS - Star Wars Bar Scene
80/80 - a warm water weenie who only dives AL80s in 80 degree water. Pronounced "eighty eighty"

Buddy Check... "Begin With Review And Friend" Or "Big White Rabbits Are Friendly"
Buoyancy Compensator
Weights
Releases
Air
Final

Signs before OxTox convulsions...
Visual
Ears
Nervous syndromes
Tinglies
Irritability (Walter??? :tease: )
Disorientation

Accident Management...
Approach
Look & Listen (especially for help)
Equipment/Electrical
Rscuscitate
Treat & Transport

KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid
FUBAR - F***ed Up Beyond All Recognition
DFO - Done Fell Out (a common EMS term)

That 80/80 was hilarious :D

my instructor insisted that I remember SORTED:

Signal
Orient
Regulator
Time
Equalize
and Dive

(for a pre-dive check)

For the life of me, I could remember SORTED, but not what the heck it stood for! LOL I would just float there, suspended at the surface, looking blankly at her. LOL I would get the 'I'm dissapointed in you' look, and a big sigh, and then she'd repeat it for me...AGAIN.

As a thank you gift for all of her hard work and the time she devoted into turning me into a diver, I made her a small wall hanging in where I had stitched SORTED and it's description, along with lots of fish swimming around it.

It took me a couple of months to complete it, and I told her that with me working on it every single day, that I was sure that SORTED would be imprinted in my brain forever. LOL

She got a big kick out of my gift to her. She said that she laughs every time she looks at it, and remembers me. LOL
