I'm no spearfisher, but I've grown up in the water with sharks. How often have we been out and run into the random curious black tip or bull? We shouldn't be surprised or freaked out by the presence of a predator, who is quite often more at home as a scavenger.
That was a bunch of line in the water, but it seems that he managed it well.
He dropped his knife, now he'll have to buy a new one and use a lanyard! I believe the lesson was learned.
Spearing during the shark migration season is questionable, but it didn't seem like there was a swarm of fins after him. We should all be mentally prepared for a shark to suddenly realize we are more than able to provide a bitefull of nutrition.
Looks like he kept his guard up and successfully fended off the opportunist.
I'd go out with a buddy next time.
