OW PADI course at my university in 1986-- I needed a PE credit, and learning to dive seemed a reasonable solution.
Of course, if I'd known that the open water portion of the course was held in Puget Sound with ripped, ill-fitting and way too thin wetsuits, I might have reconsidered.
