we are going to stay for a week in victoria to dive around....any advice on where is inexpensive place to stay at since our primiray is diving.....any advice on inexpensive lodge, hotel, motel...?
thanks

I find B&B's to be a better choice than hotels. They cost less, the places are better maintained, and the owners are happy to be as sociable as the guests want. Plus breakfast is always fantastic. I have never been disappointed.

Plus, for divers, it is possible that the B&B will have somewhere you can rinse and hang your gear.

Google will help you find plenty of hits. Rates should be good this time of year since it is still shoulder season.

We've often stayed at the Robin hood Motel - near downtown, rooms with kitchenettes available, and a descent cost. Also has the benifit of being close to Ogden & Clover Point, making for easy night dives at those sites.

I also enjoy staying in hostels; both the HI Victoria and Ocean Backpackers Inn are great hostels (if you're into that thing). Avoid the turtle refugee at all costs - unless you like lice :mooner:

No assiciation, aside from being a happy customer.

Oh, check out Selkirk Guest House. Last time I was there the "Hostel Rate" was $25 a night. They're awesome, they put on a great breakfast (it costs a bit more, but so worth it!) and have a hot tub!

I live near Sidney by the sea on the Saanich Peninsula, just north of Victoria. There is some shorediving on the peninsula, a couple of diveshops and some charter operations based out of Sidney. Its about a half hour north of Victoria and generally considered to be the suburbs of Victoria. Its also close to some good boat diving.

Obviously I don't stay here, but here is a list of the Sidney Accomodations that I know about:

If you need more info about Sidney or Victoria feel free to PM me.

Thanks for the info....any advice on staying in Vancouver? Not for diving..a place with parking....around $90 a night?

Mid June,,,,street parkiing or underground,,,it does no matter. just some nice area

You might be hard pressed to find a hotel downtown Vancouver for $90 per night. I don't stay downtown too often, and rarely have I found a hotel for under $125 cdn a night.

I have friends who have stayed at the YM/YWCA and said that it was pretty basic, but apparently acceptable (http://www.ywcahotel.com).

Alternatively, you could stay out near the airport, which is about 15 minutes from downtown. There are a lot of hotels out that way. I have stayed at the Accent Inn ($99ish a night in mid June) and found it to be quite clean. They also have a location on the Burnaby/Vancouver border, which is about the same distance from downtown ($95ish a night).

If you do want to stay downtown and they have underground parking, I would recommend using it, but ask how much it will be when you make your reservations. Some hotels charge for underground parking. I got hit for $30 a day for parking at one hotel downtown.

Good Luck.
