If a stand alone compass is what you are looing for. perhaps you need to now what qualities in one you need. The most important one for me is how much tilt it can have and still work. I have seen compasses that have to be. nearly flat to use others can be tilted 20-30 degrees. Yes as mentioned the petrel / perdix compass is fantastic in this regard but like said , expensive and the inquery was for a stand alone.
