Why choose LP tanks over HP Steel tanks?

Which would mean that they couldn't fill AL80's too.
I don't understand this comment. If you like, go into more detail and hopefully I will either "get it" or explain it.
 
Interesting about the fills. I have local friends who tell me they have trouble getting LP fills. HP fills are not a problem....
That's actually a GOOD thing,,,I like HP fills inside my LP tanks !! :bounce::acclaim::lock:

If they can't fill 2650 tanks because they are set up for 3442 tanks they can't fill 3000# tanks either.
 
Higher pressures put more stress, wear, and tear on your regulator.
Same reason you turn your air on slowly rather than quickly.

My theory is that they set up for 3000, and don't want the hassle of changing based on the cylinder. In that scenario, they would be filling a 3442 cylinder to 3000, but refusing to fill anything rated under 3000 because they can't just attach it to the fill and walk away, counting on the pressure regulator to halt the flow at the correct (or under) service pressure.

You know, I hesitated before typing out the wear and tear comment, but decided it should be out there. I wish I had a solid source for attribution I could point you to, but I don't. I have heard/read it several times over the years, but I don't remember exactly where. It came up again sometime in the last year that I remember at the time thinking to myself after reading that it was reliable confirmation of previously acquired info. Again, wish I could remember where. I'll be interested to see other/future comments at large.
 
Will you ever be transfilling in the future where there isn't access to compressor?

LP are better to receive a boost from a full tank. HP are better to fill other tanks...

The height of LP80 and HP100 are similar and for me (being a shorty), might as well take more gas in the same size tank.
 
As a side note, and not to derail this topic, but I believe my LDS charges a few extra bucks for a HP fill... is this typical? I would imagine it is...

Do shops charge a few extra bucks for a LP fill?
 
It’s other places besides my shop. If you’re only getting fills at the shop, no problem. Try at some of the quarries, nope.

Possible and valid theories, but until the quarry which possibly might not fill LP Tanks is named and we can ask directly, ...just theories. With my very, very limited Quarry exposure (and having just 1 LP tank for 1 year so far, I did not run into an LP refill issue yet.
