It is expensive no matter how you shake it.

Yeah... new equipment could be very expensive, true... but if you do some research on Internet and/or buy used - it's possible to save lots of money. Then local diving costs you about 10 bucks per dive + gas for your car. Just compare this to one day of skiing...
 
We dove at Whytecliff yesterday.. On the way back we've met a playful seal and watched him for 5 mins... that was just awesome! He could be a DIR instructor-trainer btw...has a perfect buoyancy.. :)
