Also I found my bolt snaps fell through the holes in the bottom and made it tricky to remove from under certain boat seats. A sink matt allows water to drain but not fall through the bottom.
This is a great idea, as I had lots of stuff poking out the bottom and inopportune times.

I'm heading out again tomorrow on a charter where everyone, including the crew, use milk crates. There were some interesting setups, so I'll see if I can get some photos.
Sorry everyone--by the time I remembered to snap a photo, last dive was done and everyone had their crates covered with their dry suits.

Someone was rocking a vintage Wawa milk crate that I now covet.

I'm a big fan of adding a few stainless D rings to the outside to clip all my hardware to. Crate from Farmplast (MILK CRATES - Plastic Crates For Sale | Buy Direct & SAVE ✅)

I think they're actually called U-Bolts and you can walk into your neighborhood ace and pick them up for a couple bucks.

I like this a lot--I put mine on the inside, which I still like for transporting--however once on the boat with the crate stored, having a couple on the outside would be really handy. I kept having to pull the crate out to fiddle with gear. I think I'll add some before my next trip.

I figured as much, just need to make sure they're SS.

I don't have a picture with me but if you cut the bottom of of one of the rectangle crates and then use heavy duty zip ties to attach it to the top of another crate you have a box that will hold everything but the tank. Just leave enough of the ridges on the bottom corners to keep it stable and remember to sand the cut areas.
