Actually , the shootings are all over the place. There has been shootings at Hemingways within a year or so and thats right on the main waterfront. Others have been couple blocks from waterfront ......can be anywhere. More once you are past 30th ave to the east. Its the same on the mainland and there is no say where a shooting will occur. I would say all are targeted here with a few that were mis identified and shot.

A guy rode his bike past us by the punta langosta ferry pier 2 yrs ago and we heard a loud BANG! The guy flew up in the air, full flip and landed flat on his back... Sounded just like when charlie brown hits the ground when lucy pulled the football.
As I grabbed my wife to hit the deck like everyone else was about to, we see the guy getting up from the pavement, pick up his bike and walk it across the street.
Turns out his back tire blew and when it did it sounded like a gunshot.

Cozumel is a single industry town, which is tourism. I have watched the population continually expand with folks moving here from all over mexico in search of jobs, over the last decade. The cost of living has always been at a much higher cost than the mainland, the only check on even greater population increases is the cost of living. If 3000 'affordable' homes or even raw lots were magically made available tomorrow there would most likely be 30,000 new residents from across Mexico arriving the following day.Cozumel unable to fill 3,000 housing needs that cost 30 percent more than mainland - Riviera Maya News
