I have the Pinnacle without the merino. If that is any indication, the Merino should work in the vacuum of space. DANG is that thing warm. I try to dress for the water like I would dress for the same temperature in air if I was just going to be standing around. I put on my Pinnacle suit last year over underarmour and went out on the porch on a chilly day in the low-40s. I came in after 10 minutes when I started sweating.

I'm just not the biggest fan of undergarments I can't wash.

AMEN! That was the final straw that pushed me into the Weezle Extreme+. I was considering the Merino Evolution but I just couldn't get myself to go for another thinsulate suit. It's great stuff, but it's just too darn delicate.

I'm 6', weight 186#'s. I'm diving double 95's with steel BP and a 4# V weight. I often carry 1 to 3 stages. Fresh water. In the summer, I use no weight because I use less insulation. If I dive salt, I use 2#'s of V weight, but in salt water I'm warm, 'cause so is the water. I am satisfied that I am properly weighted. I can add enough air/argon to take out the squeeze, and then I use my BC. In the winter, I move a little more air into the suit.

When you dive stages but still need to be able to stay neutral should you lose those stages and breath up most of your backgas, you start out plenty negative. So if I ever wanted to do a Michelin man with my suit I can.

Sounds like the amount of fleece and the amount of gas in the suit are at your preferred level, but that level wouldn't keep me warm either. :)

I've been layering to try to stay warm: micro fleece, fleece, fleece vest and the fleece undies that came with my (now replaced) Whites dry suit (I think it's 300g). When the temp gets below 40, I add a layer of polypros. By then I feel so restricted and bulky it's ridiculous. And I'm still only good for 40 minutes before I get cold.

I have a feeling a warmer undergarment in this suit is going to make you feel even more like "Michelin Man".

Weezle Extreme Plus is certainly going to need more lofting and will probably not fit the way you like from what you describe of the fit with extra fleece.

Perhaps the suit is such a close fit that it will limit your choices.

Have you tried Thinsulate with this suit?

Rick, another thing my friends here swear by (but I haven't tried yet) is the 12 mm hoods from Cricket in Monterey. I can't offhand remember the name of the company, but you could PM rjack for it.

I bought a Weezle Extreme Plus from Mike at DiveRightInScuba. Should be getting it this weekend. While I've not dove it yet, everyone I know that has one raves about it. I had bought a thinsulate custom undies jumpsuit and I was surprised that it didn't do nearly what I thought it would. I already look like the Michelin Man, so what the hell....:D

12mm ... WOW! Can someone post or PM me with info on those bad boys?!

I've never bought anything from them, but here is the link

The company is Otter Bay. Cricket will make a 12mm hood custom fit to your noggin.

The first thing I thought when I read this thread was "what kind of hood is he using?"
