Me and three friends are going to be doing a week in West End in late May. We'll be doing the majority of our diving with CTD, and we're looking for lodging advice. We're hoping to spend <$600/week and be only a few minutes walk from the dive shops/nightlife. A kitchen is preferred as we're probably gonna wanna cook our own meals a few times.
I've done some research and its looking like our best bets are Mi Casa, Posada Arco Iris's 2 bedroom apartment, or CTD cabins (which I've heard has at least one room with a full kitchen).
Am I missing any equivalent options? Should I NOT be considering one of those three?

Oh, 2 of my friends are a couple, so an ideal configuration would be 2 bedrooms, one with a full/queen for the couple, the other with two single/double beds for us singles.

Thanks in advance. Can't wait to finally get to Roatan. Was scheduled to visit this past July on a business trip, but it was cancelled when that durn Zelaya dude decided to rock the boat and get his butt coup'd.

I've been in the 2BR at CTD. It does have a full kitchen. It also has 2 queen beds IIRC. And a full-sized table. Not a huge place there was a small couch and one other chair in the main room with the 2BR's off it. There might be more than one 2BR cabin also. One option would be to rent a studio for someone to sleep in. They were about $45/nt 2 years ago. A friend had one, it had a bed, table and mini-frig. They have one of the best generators also, we never noticed the power was out till we walked out to the street a couple of nights. It happens pretty often - at least it did.

Obviously it's convenient to CTD and pretty much in the heart of the West End. There'e not much view (or breeze) as the 2-story CTD/restaurant/store building is between the cabins and the water. Some of the cabins along the outside of the property probably have a bay view. After diving we hung out on the CTD patio (beers on the honor system) or at Sundowners across the street which is on the water.

They're good people, you can't go wrong with CTD. E-mail Gay - CTD's owner, she also took care of the cabin rental arrangements for us. There's a small food market in the CTD building also and Woody's - the other West End market - is 1 short block to the east. Think big 7-Eleven with produce and IIRC fresh meat. The best market we saw was in Coxen Hole near the hospital - it was like a small US market - meat counter, all sorts of frozen stuff, produce etc.

At Posada Arco Iris, you'd have the noise from the Argentinian Grille which is directly in front of the apts. The way they're oriented it's not such an issue except for the front two (don't know where the 2BR is) We looked at it also. The restaurant closes by 10-11 most nights. It's a block further east from CTD so also at the start of the West End strip - most of the bars/restaurants etc are west of there. You'll have dozens to choose from within a mile - many within a few hundred yards.

We were there in May also. Rained a couple of nights but nothing that stopped us from diving. Bring good bug protection, you're going to need it. Try to avoid any restaurant with tablecloths also unless you have long pants.

Are you saying bugs attack your legs less at a
table without a tablecloth than with?

I am wondering about this as well. To date, unless I have my chainsaw or Commercial bushwacker out I have not worn long pants on any of the bay islands or the mainland. Maybe if they have tablecloths they serve leftover food unles your wearing long pants?

Hmmm, 2 queens at CTD, huh? Would prefer my own bed, but its not a deal breaker by any means.

Any places ON half moon bay that anyone would recommend? If its a coupla extra bucks extra a night, thats fine. Worth it for a room with a view...

On an unrelated note, I remember reading about some restaurant on the other side of the island that has spectacular sunsets and lobster(?) dinners. Am I completely making this up, or is that a real place?

West end is the north side of the Island, that is the side that gets the sunsets so i really have no idea what you recall reading about.

Seriously you both have nothing better to do?

How about posting something useful in response to the OP's request instead of trolling?

Sorry, I wasn't trolling. Seriously. I'm planning on going to Roatan
to dive and was just curious how people deal with the bugs I've
read about. I thought you were hinting at a good tip I hadn't
heard about yet. I just didn't understand and was asking for
clarification.

Seriously steve,
You took the time for a sarcastic replyto myself and another without answering the question. Do you really think tablecloths increase bug activity or is there some underlying dry humor thing your trying to get across?
How about posting something usefull to explain your post that most in the thread to date have found a bit confusing?
The poster has already brought up places i have posted on in the past and or you hit upon in your post, Face it, I have not stayed anywhere on the island except my house for years so nothing else to add but at least i let him know the Sunsets were best seen on the North Side where he was already asking about, PLEASE, Stop wasting time.

Of course i will avoid dining in my Mankini

Read in context I hope this makes sense. My point was that the bugs are often lurking under tablecloths - at least they were at the Argentinian. I learned the hard way after forgetting the Deet the first time we ate there - bit about 20 times that night. The second time I wore cotton Dockers and remained bug free. Maybe it's weird but I do occasionally wear long pants to dinner at night - even on Roatan.
