in a perfect world, i'd put every student into this bcd.

Halcyon Infinity | Halcyon Dive Systems

it's amazingly adjustable, ridiculously comfortable, and bridges the gap... it would be a fantastic 'first' BCD and would go as far you want in diving.

I wish i'd had the option 20 years ago. I wouldn't have had to buy my way through the dive store's inventory of bcd's...

With regards to 'not being used in the resorts, etc..' my friend who has been teaching in USVI for the last 3 years has a nicely worn Halcyon Pioneer single wing on a backplate... suited her fine in the Quarry's several years back when she bought it, then in florida keys, then USVI, and works great for her now that she's come to the 'cold side' and moved to Seattle :) She's not a tech diver. Someday hopefully, but not yet

I love it when someone tells you what gear to buy when they have less than 25 dives under their belt. And then you have another guy telling you you have to have a back plate, and he has 100 times as many post's as he has dives, and does not have one picture of him self near the water. It is what type of diving you do. I do a lot of salvage work and need pockets and lots of stainless D rings for lift bags, I like ti carry 2- 50 lbs and 2 -100 lbs. Mostly I use my Seaquest QBC I have 3 of them, I do have a Zeagle tech. and OMS double bladder, and a dive team issued Lifeguard systems bcd (junk). Stay away from the airsorce and air-2 octo's save your money and put it towards a pony set up.

Welcome to the internet!

Seems to be a few people who can't rave about the Zeagle Express Tech enough. If I didn't have a BP/W I'd be seriously considering it!

Where's your photo?

Advising a newly certified OW diver to get a pony set up is poor advice IMO.

I'll see if I can find a photo of myself in my BP/W....

It really all depends on the kind of diving you want to do. While I really don't care for jacket BC's, for your everyday OW diver they do the job. If you're going to do cavern, cave or wreck penetration then get the BP/W now - it will save you a boat load of money.

...and for what it's worth - it's the holdouts that don't want to use the right tool for the job that scare me.

...and don't worry about a pony - that's what your buddy and air-management skills are for.

I agree with 25dives, they are very knowledgeable about gear:shakehead::shocked2::rofl3:

Ok guys, once again thanks for the advices, now that i read more and i know a little bit more about BCDs i'm determined to get a Stab jacket BC but i've got some concerns,

as in should i get a ("wraparound") or a ("back inflation.")BCD?? how do they differ? performance wise?

and what do u guys think of the airtrim tech?? which is better, airtrim or regular inflation/deflation tech?? what are the advantages and disadvantages of both?

one more thing, how about BC integrated weight?? recommandable? NOT? and WHY??

Pesonal experience and openions upon trying a BCD would be highly appreciated as much as other openions

FYI type of diving i'm intending to do: coral, hot weather mostly, Dubai, Egypt, Maldives, Cyprus, Florida, Cali, South Africa.
how deep: roughly will be going for recreational diving only, will be going down to 40, 45 meters max!! not even to that extent!!:mooner:
gonna be mostly wreck, and photography diving, gonna be doing my nitrox course soon so i want it to be compatible with that too "if it makes any difference":dork2:

thanking you all in advance,
KEEP GOING DEEPER!!

i'm determined to get a Stab jacket BC

I don't want to get into the debate regarding what kind of BC is "best" (I personally use a "jacket" BC).

But be careful of terminology.

A "stab jacket," as commonly used, has the air cell extending all the way around your arms. They were common back in the 1980s, when horse-collar BCs were first giving way to jackets. Not so common now, though some people still love them.

What you're probably referring to is a conventional front-adjust "jacket" BC. There's no air cell where the shoulder straps are.

See here.
